---Choose one song or piece from the CD
---Listen to it 3 times, at least
1) listen
2)write down colors/shapes/memories/stories, etc.---free association
3)write down any instruments you hear
---Write down the name of the piece, the composer, and the name of the group/conductor, and when it was performed.
---Write down any other comments you have about it: did you like it? Hate it? Did it change for you over time? I'm looking for some complete sentences here.
b) Find a book in the library, in the second-floor music section.
Write down:
---title, author, date of publication
---what the book is about (give me a brief synopsis (a few paragraphs)--you don't have to read it, but skim through it, look at the table of contents, etc. I'm looking for complete sentences)
---Why you chose this book--why is it interesting to you?
---Would you check it out and read it someday?
2) Read pages 13-26: Melody, rhythm, harmony. Write down 3 questions, comments, or observations about the reading. If you want, bring in some of your own music on a CD (any style), and we'll analzye it in terms of melody, rhythm, and harmony.
